Machine will not boot, always goes into diagnostics menu, which you must exit out of to start normal boot.
So you cant reboot the server without somebody on the console to do this. No HMC attached.
The error can be reproduced on a HMC connected P5 easily, by activating profile - advanced - boot mode - diagnostic with default boot list. Simply put this back to normal and it boots fine. But how does one do this without the HMC ? Is there more SMS/BIOS level commands to control this ?
Any hints or ideas are weclomed, thanks very much

anyway, you have the service processor you can reach via serial connection when the machine is powered down plus you have the intuitive 3 button interface near the leds.

I think it states selecting function 02 - and then increment to the operating system mode, this I assume is set to M for manual but should be N for normal. Then using those buttons change it to N. The other option I have read is to remove the battery for 30 mins, and it defaults it back to N.

    Thanks again.

Thanks for your input but I checked ASMI and the SMS to no avail. SMS does have the multiboot startup option but this is for dual booting /AIX/linux and not much use. As advised the front panel function 02 needs to be set to N for operating system mode-normal boot. As it must be currently set to M - maintenance. The redbook for front panel is in the other reply of this post.
    Thanks again for your help.
