  • 1.  "missing values" in custom tables is greyed out.

I have a multiple response set and "missing values" option is greyed out. However, I have some participants that have missing values. What do I have to do to activate the missing values option?
    Best regards

Hi. I'm going to need a little more detail. Can you tell me which dialog you're looking at?

    Hi Rick,

thank you for your answer. I use Analyze > Tables > Custom Tables.  Then I defined a multiple response set, saved the MRS. Then via Analyze > Custom Tables I took the MRs and dragged and dropped it into Row. Then in ctagories and tools, "missing values" is greyed out.

I'm guessing that you have a multiple dichotomy set and are looking at the Categories and Totals subdialog in Custom Tables.

With a MD set, only the counted value matters - other values, whether missing or not, would not be counted, so the Missing Values option does not apply.

    Hey Jon,

thank you! I changed from dichotomies to categories just to try it out and yep, this seemed to be the problem. I think it's kinda odd though because when I simply go by "Analyze > Multiple Responses", SPSS will show valid and missing and "percent of cases" here seem to be the same as "Count Valid N%" via custom tables. So my table is well aware about the valid N but won't display it.

    But thanks for your help!

It's the logic of a multiple dichotomy set.  If you change it to a multiple category set, you can see all the values, and if you check the Missing Values box, those counts will also appear in the table, assuming that they are user missing.
