  • 1.  Missing objects when installing PTF

    Posted Mon February 12, 2024 10:36 AM

I am trying to install 5770SS1-SI79293 from an image I downloaded from Fix Central. The installation process applies 5770SS1-SI74090 permanently but then it fails for SI79293 with the message "Object not found.  Object is /QSYS.LIB/QSYSDIR.LIB/QPZR004640.FILE"

    Dear Alejandro

Many IBM i PTFs also require that some other PTFs also pre-exist in the system or are applied together (called pre-requisite and co-requisite)  and you need to read the PTF Cover Letter information fisrt to know this.   Please do a Google search with "ibm i ptf SI79293' and you will see this entry in the result :  SI79293 - ECC java.lang.NullPointerException using... at  https://www.ibm.com/support/pages/ptf/SI79293

You can see that another PTF SI56820 is ALSO needed and you need to check if SI56820 is already in your system or not using DSPPTF command (most likely not in your case).   You also need to read PTF Info of SI56820 as well to see if it also requires any other pre and co PTFs or not and check them in your system and so on.  Depending on how recent your cumulative level of PTFs is, the chain of pre and co-requisite PTFs will stop and you will identify all PTFs you ACTUALLY need to apply altogether.  If the list of PTFs is long, it implies that your cumulative level of PTF is very low (far back into the past).

Some PTFs also have SPECIAL INSTRUCTION that you need to take before applying them.

Wow, trying to apply a PTF for IBM i 7.2.  I was going to suggest opening a case for that but that might be difficult as I believe that release is out of support.

I had a long response typed up but the more I look at it the more I think Satid may be right.  If you do a WRKF QSYSDIR/*ALL you will likely find that all the files with a name like that are save files and are likely to contain PTF objects.

I would try applying the latest cume and all the groups available for 7.2.  If you are WAY behind it might behoove you to apply the latest resave and then apply the latest cume and groups.

Thanks everyone. We are actually up to date with fixes and we have extended support. I created a case and it turns out there was a defective PTF already applied.

     124. 17 Nov 2023 PROBLEM: (SE80802) Licensed Program = 5770SS1
Usability of a Product's MAJOR Function
                                  LODPTF/RMVPTF fail
USERS AFFECTED: All IBM i operating systems with 5770SS1
                                       SI85059 applied.
RECOMMENDATION: Apply PTF SI85367 to the system by itself.
No other PTFs should be installed along
                                       with SI85367.
