  • 1.  Mirroring cube functionality with relational data module

    Posted 06/16/21 12:50 PM
    Hi,

Whats the best place to find how to mirror standard cube functionality with relational? (eg.. Currentmeasure within set set()... whats the equivalent of that in Cognos relational data module?)   i need to create various % of total aggregations and am relatively new to cognos data modules.

Any general info would be helpful.  THanks!

    Hi James,

It is not easy to model a Data Module into a cube type structure. The nearest you can get it to model your data as a star schema and build your data module accordingly. Data Modules do let you take multiple tables and join them together easily so that wont be an issue.

The type of calculation that you refer to (currentmeasure within set) etc you need to perform in your reporting rather than the modelling layer.

Data Modules is aimed at relational data so replicating any specific cube design might bear fruit if you use the Dynamic Cube designer to specifically create a cube instead of using Data Modules.

In terms of walking through Data Modules a fellow IBM Champion @Ryan Dolley did an excellent deep dive into Data Modules on the PMSquare YouTube channel last year. That is worth checking out.

    Regards
    Andy
