My client is planning to replace the current MS SQL database and migrate to Maximo Application Suite (MAS). In your opinion, what migration sequence would be more efficient and less risky: switching to Oracle first and then migrating to MAS, or migrating to MAS first and then moving to Oracle?

Hello!

I think risks in both scenarios are similar, except, that end of support is close for Maximo, and client will need to pay something for extended support.

Maximo 7.6.x may not be compatible with latest Oracle DB version, but it looks like, that Oracle 19c is last supported for Maximo 7.6.x and also only officially for MAS 9 , so it is OK also to first migrate to Oracle DB. 

And then You should check which MS SQL is used now, as if it is something older than MS SQL Server 19, then You can first migrate to Oracle, not to migrate to that MS SQL 19 additionally for MAS 9 migration.

Hi Arnoldas,

i've recently took part in project involving upgrade from 7.6 to MAS with MS SQL (2016) to DB2 conversion. The path we have taken was to upgrade to MAS on MS SQL 2019 and then migrate to DB2. We've stood up a temporary instance of MS SQL 2019 using contenerized version.
