Hi Matthew
Here are my thoughts, I hope they are helpful:
- Have I used it? - Yes but not to migrate to PowerVS
It works just as well with other cloud and On Prem servers
- Tips for planning stage with PowerVS
Ensure you have spare capacity on the Internet Connection you plan to use for Sync to PowerVS
If you have a big or busy system, consider a separate, dedicated connection
Design your post migration network connection before starting the migration so you can more easily test
Ensure you are using DNS names for connecting to the source system from all client connections to allow for swift change at cut over
Design you UAT cutover testing plan
Monitor the MWA system interface regularly to make sure you are consistently getting close to being in Sync, as some workloads periodically generate large volumes of new data that may take longer to sync.
Use the MWA option to Test your Sync's workload at least twice before final cut over.
- Pitfalls
Make sure you have considered the licensing for your 3rd Party software tools.
Not only will your serial number change, it's highly likely your model, processor feature and processor group will change too

Subject: Migrate While Active
Has anyone out there used the IBM i Migrate While Active offering to take an on-premises IBM i environment up to PowerVS? I'd like to know your experiences. Good points, bad points, pitfalls, etc.
