    Does somebody register, f.i. electricity meter seals in maximo?

    How do You do that? maybe there is some specific module in maximo for that?

    In general, we need to assign some batch of seals to some person (form number to number), then he can attach them to some asset, also manage some status, if it has been broken, some history, which seals were used on that asset.

    I know that Maximo HSE Manager add-on has an application for managing Locks including Seals, Locks, Lock Boxes etc. Thet are usually used in conjunction with Permit to Work or Isolation Management but you could take a look at this to see if this supports your use case:

    I agree with Steve Lee that beside lock management in the HSE add-on there is also a much more sophisticated HSE Lock Out / Tag Out feature available in the add-on. As part of work permits but also as a standalone application in HSE there is isolation management available as an extension on lock management. The combination of both Lock Management and Isolation Management will suit your needs and requirements, more than creating virtual assets for seals and introduce extra work load to manage and maintaining asset swaps and moves, asset relationships and / or SR's (and all related extra processes, RACI's, configurations etc.) to cover this requirement. HSE supports this by default with default processes and there is no need to   If you want or need more information about HSE related coverage, please contact me or Steve.     We have this requirement to implement in the next 4 months.

    You will probably need to declare each seal as an asset and validate that you don't have the same 2 seal numbers that are on the same meter.

    When you seal the meter, you must associate that seal with the asset.  You can leverage Maximo Asset Relations tab to build the link between Asset Meter and Asset Seal. You can also push it to another level by managing seals as an inventory and using the inventory usage application to issue seals as rotating items.... If your report a missing/broken seak, you can create an SR for investigation/fining the customer.

    You will need a mobile application to help the field worker attach/issue the seals to the assets, generate SRs...

    I think Maximo is well adapted to handle seal management for meters properly.

    I like your approach Mohamed.  It makes sense.  Is there a pending regulation to track meter seals at a more granular level?  In the past I have seen seal number as an attribute on the Meter asset.   That doesn't give you the ability to track seals to a person though while they are in the persons truck.  If you treat the seal as it's own rotating asset, then the seal could be at the Labor Location that represents the persons truck.  You could then move it to the Premise location when it's installed with the meter.

    Hi,

    We have same ongoing project activities related to internal natural gas distribution infrastructure. We decided to define seal as rotating asset due to following reasons:

    • Seal must be placed at the meter asset,
    • Movement history must be tracked,
    • Serial numbers must be tracked.

    Hi Juris,

    Taking this further using the seals as rotating assets, you can issue a bunch to a technician.  This way you know who has them.  When they install the seal against the asset it can then be issued once again to the work order (from the technician's "store"), and I'd suggest that the item is flagged as "Attach to Parent Asset on Issue?", this way it automatically becomes a child asset, but for this to work seamlessly, the meter must be on the work order.

    At some stage, the seal will need to be removed, however, due to the nature of these, they cannot be reused.  The process needs to move the seal asset to a disposal location and the status suitably updated.

    Thank You all for answers, ideas, and approving, that we need to think about seals as assets. It looks really like right option. As we also will be able to generate them from item template with assetnumbers as seal numbers (we are receiving some batch usually)

    Will also discuss further with Arkady in person, as we know each other allready for some time.
