    Hello Experts,

    Basic question on AppPoints.

If I already established a purchase contract for AppPoint, do I have to get another RedHat OpenShift license if I want to deploy MAS in AWS or Azure?

Or the right to use OpenShift is included in the AppPoints for all types of deployment plan: On-prem, AWS, Azure, GCP, etc?

I use this slide 10+11 from D. Gasdia:

    Hi Dianne,

OpenShift license is included in MAS. You can use it on every platform, but You cannot use OpenShift for anything else than MAS.

I've written a short tutorial on how to link MAS licenses with OpenShift here: https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/openshift-licenses-maximo-application-suite-witold-wierzchowski

Witold, you're correct. Nicely written article on how to activate OCP license for MAS. I would only add that this scenario won't apply as is for hyperscaler OCP (managed-hosted OpenShift by cloud vendors). It would apply as is for self-managed and self-deployed OCP on Cloud and/or your own data centers.

Arif - can you please clarify your comment on hyperscalers?

Are you saying that, as an IBM customer, if I decide to deploy my MAS environment in AWS or AZURE I will need to acquire a separate license of Open Shift?

    Thank you,

    Chris

If there is a cloud vendor which hosts managed Openshift using BYOL then most probably You would need additional licenses.

To explain a bit further: if You setup OpenShift cluster yourself using EC2 instances, EBS and couple other AWS services and You maintain this cluster Yourself then You do not need additional licenses. You can use those bundled in MAS licenses.

However, if You buy OpenShift using 'managed service' offering (for example Azure Red Hat Openshift azure.microsoft.com/pl-pl/products/openshift) then OpenShift licenses are included in the service price. In this case You would be 'paying twice' for the OpenShift licenses, cause these are bundled both with MAS licenses and Azure serivce.

Hi Christopher. You will go through this process highlighted by Witold if you plan to have a self-managed OCP (anywhere). What I meant to highlight is the fact that this same process is differently implemented on managed-hosted OCP on Hyperscaler. For example, if you were to use IBM Cloud's managed-hosted OCP, you wouldn't have to go through Witold's highlighted process. IBM Cloud makes it easier to apply the same process when you sign up to acquire their service. Hope this helps?
