  • 1.  MAS and Oracle TABLESPACE

    Hi to all,

i wanted to get some consultation of best practices using DB data restoration/population, e.g., data renewal from PROD to TST environment (for testing/other needs).

While amount of the data is small - this is not an issue. However when amount of data reaches 2TB+, working with such data restoration becomes difficult and time consuming.

In addition, only part of PROD data is required, i.e., data must be deleted after the "renewal process" or "part of data restored".

    1) Deletion relies of running data deletion -> db shrink optimization operations.

    2) Partial data restoration would rely on exclusive data partitioning/division over tablespaces and restoration of subset of tablespaces.

Here are some questions for both 1 and 2 cases:

    a) does MAS provide OOTB data hard delete, shrink, and DB optimization operations?

    b) which data deletion approach soft or hard is implemented in MAS?

    c) data restoration procedure selection - does MAS support any OOTB functionality or this is more DBAs task which should be done at DB level and afterwards "reinitialized from MAS side"?

    d) custom tablespace definition and use in MAS. MAS tables are managed from UI. Is there a OOTB functionality, which allows introducing/using custom tablespaces for MAS base and MAS custom tables?

    e) does IBM provide recommendation for historical data removal, i.e., hard delete, and subsequent steps for DB space retrieval? Or this is fully DBAs task ?

    f) does IBM provide any recommendations other than initial DB setup configuration for Oracle and DBA work?

Looking forward to any details, suggestions, or recommendations.

    /saulius
