In Manage v9 support for Google/Bing Maps is deprecated (link).
So I am trying to use Open Street as a provider, but the result is disappointing. I can see the mapping in the Map tab, but the object seems to be hidden (seems to be an overlay bug) and the tools on the map have disappeared. I have tried to enable them by configuring map tools on map-admin app, but without success.
Has anyone been able to use this provider without regretting their previous use of Google Maps? Or am I just missing something?

    PS:
I am very familiar with Maximo Spatial, so I trust that using ESRI product/services everything works great, but often customers just need to see their assets/workorders projected on a map.

I completely understand your frustration. The deprecation of Google/Bing Maps in Manage v9 has made things unnecessarily complicated for those of us who just need a simple mapping solution without the overhead of Maximo Spatial.

I've also tested OpenStreetMap as a provider, and the experience was far from ideal-similar issues with overlays and missing tools. Despite configuring the map tools in the map-admin app, the expected functionality just wasn't there.

It does feel like IBM is pushing ESRI as the preferred solution, but not all of us need the full GIS capability. Sometimes, all we want is to see our assets and work orders on a map without the need to go down the Maximo Spatial route.

If anyone has successfully configured OpenStreetMap without major compromises, I'd love to hear about it. Right now, it seems like a choice between struggling with OSM or going all-in with ESRI, which isn't always justifiable.

Has anyone found a workaround or a better approach?

Regarding the objects being hidden, that is a bug (https://www.ibm.com/mysupport/s/defect/aCIKe000000g1KLOAY/dt417470?language=en_US) that we fixed internally. I believe it will be in the next 9.0 patch at the beginning of March.

To provide a little context as to why we deprecated the other mapping providers, in 8.11 we had two distinct Mapping views. The one available in classic applications like WOTRACK which supported Google, Bing, and ESRI. And the MAF based version that we used in the role-based applications and Maximo Mobile that only supported ESRI and Open Maps.

In 9.0 we updated the Map tab in classic applications to our new MAF based version. This was to provide a consistent experience between the new and legacy applications and to enable the enhancements we continue to add to the MAF based version to be available to all of our applications. We have some additional enhancements planned in 9.1 but it would be good to understand the most critical gaps that you're missing from the Google integration.

    Steven,
Thank you for the valuable information on this topic.
IMO it is important that new versions do not reduce end-user functionality beyond the technical aspects. So it is fine to switch from Google Maps to OSM if the map interaction tools (those listed in the toolitems attribute of the mapcontrol widget) remain at least the same as in the previous version.

PS: Speaking of technical changes, will it still be possible to add new custom tools to the map?

    Diego,

I believe you are referring to the layers not being displayed when the map is opened? If you open the browser developer tools you will likely have errors similar to "Content-Security-Policy: The page's settings blocked the loading of a resource at" and the following technote https://www.ibm.com/support/pages/content-security-policy-blocked-load-map-resources will address your issue. You will also find this documented in the Manage Continuous Delivery documentation (Not where you would expect it in the Spatial document but rather in the Health and Predict)  https://www.ibm.com/docs/en/mhmpmh-and-p-u/continuous-delivery?topic=started-getting-application-administrators

    Hi Michael,
Thanks for the suggestion; I confirm that adding the map-server domain is essential for displaying the map.
But unfortunately it does not seem to fix the hidden marker problem.
According to what Steven reported, we will have to wait for a fix.
