  • 1.  Just enrolled devices take long time to join default groups

    Hello Community friends,

    When we just enroll a new android device it takes long time to become part of "Android Devices" default group.

    The problem is that every time we enroll a new device with a remote representative person by a phone call, the maas360 only start to install our apps after the device becomes part of the "Android Devices"(which takes 15 min) group(app distributions is configured to this group).

    Is there is any workaround to speed up the process to a device to join to a default group ?

    Hello Fabiano!

    This is an old Topic where MaaS360 still don´t have a solution! Because of Rollout and Groups you have to take care that your Group is running in the Evaluation mode "Batch and Enrollment"! ​

    1.) you have to talk to the support that they enable you the "Evaluation Mode" for your Group Overview in the MaaS360 Portal, because it is still a hidden property. If they do, you will see in your Group list the columne "Evaluation Mode".
    2.) you have to take care how you build your device Group. You can test this for example with a simple Group only with a simple condition of "custom Attributes - ownership = Corporate owned". you will see this device Group will run in "Batch and enrollment" mode! This is not working with complicated conditions in your device Groups and here we have the Problem. I will open an Enhancement Request in the next days beause of that, because MaaS360 have to understand - they must Change it!
    3.) If you have the possibility to use LDAP Groups for users instead of device Groups, take it, because an ldap Group has always priority before device Groups during rollout, but it is limited on USERs and in some cases this will not work.

    Hello Walter,

    All users in a specific customer are local users, they are using one default group called "Android Devices" for app distribution, they don't have complicated conditions, the only thing that should happen is get into the group faster and install some apps linked to group.

    Do you think if I ask support for enable "Evaluation Mode" in "Android Devices" group, freshly enrolled android devices will get into the group faster ?

    No because of the evaluation mode you only will see that your existing group is an "BATCH" group and per definition a batch group need ~ 4 hours to evaluate, that means you clients have to wait max. 4 hours before they get any policies or rules or apps on there device!

    Understood, so it will not work for me. Actually 15 minutes is a long time to wait for a device to become part of a group when freshly enrolled and start applying polices and app distributions accordingly to the group. The total time for enrolling  a new device so it become ready for usually takes 30 min or more.

    It's time consuming when you're enrolling 3-5 devices per day.

    Fully understand and because of that we all of us have to open an enhancement request that MaaS360 will change the architecture how enollments are working!

    Please open an EHR, I will do the same.
