  • 1.  JDK version for ODM 11.1.1 and its tools.

    Posted Fri March 21, 2025 10:28 AM

What JRE version is supported for Decision Center, Decision Server version 8.11.1, and Rule Designer version 8.11.0? According to official IBM documentation, only JRE version 11 is supported for Decision Server.
Considering the version incompatibility in the Java JRE/JDK for the aforementioned tools, is it feasible to develop, synchronize, and deploy rules, taking this incompatibility into account?

    Hi Yasmin,

please review again the supported Java versions for ODM 8.11.1 from https://www.ibm.com/support/pages/ibm-operational-decision-manager-detailed-system-requirements

You will see that the primary version of Java for ODM 8.11.x is Java 8. There are multiple lines in the report for the supported Java versions

Toleration for Java 11 was introduced in ODM 8.11.x, but ONLY for Rule Execution Server (Decision Server)

    Thank you,

hi, Antony Thank you for your response.

According to the following information in the official ODM 8.11.1 documentation, there is no support for Java 8.
    https://www.ibm.com/docs/en/odm/8.11.1?topic=manager-software-requirements.
It also mentions that "ODM may not support Java 8 in future releases. Additionally, ODM may not support Java 8-based frameworks and tools (e.g., legacy support for WebSphere Application Server)" https://www.ibm.com/docs/en/odm/8.11.1?topic=notes-deprecated-removed-features.

This somewhat contradicts the reliability of choosing Java 8.

Thank you in advance for your attention. I look forward to your response.

    Hi,

There is not really a choice when it comes to JDK version with ODM.
JDK 8 is required for ODM 8.11 and earlier,  JDK 11 is required form ODM 8.12  and JDK 17 is required for ODM 9.0.

The deprecation is used to indicate that the next version may use a different version.

The toleration of JDK 11  is only for the runtime and usage should be avoided if possible.
