  • 1.  it is possible to read LIC log (Vlog) without interactive session?

    Hello everyone!

    I'm doing research on reading VLOG. Do you know any way to read it without the command STRSST?

    it means, with SQL, system catalog, etc?

    Is there a tool that allows me to monitor the Vlog?

    Good news!  When I did a Google search with "ibm i vlog access", it led me to this IBM Technote :  QMGTOOLS: Watch Support at  https://www.ibm.com/support/pages/qmgtools-watch-support

    Basically, use the Watch Support in QMGTOOLS to monitor a the VLOG entry of your interest and write a trigger program to do what you want when the VLOG entry is detected.    From what I see, I guess the tool allows you to monitor at most 3 VLOG entries at a time (VLOG1 to VLOG3).

    I also find that QMGTOOLS  also provides a command to print VLOGs as well  :  9. Misc Tools --> 13. QMGTOOLS Commands   --> 7. PRTVLOG - print VLOGs

    If you cannot find a service at https://www.ibm.com/support/pages/ibm-i-services-sql

    and you wish to do so, then I recommend opening an "idea" at https://ibm-power-systems.ideas.ibm.com/ideas

    If you do open an idea, let us know and we will vote on it to support you.  I'd like to see a way to feed that into a Security Info & Event Mgmt - SIEM.  Especially since we have a large box to install to get ready for QRADAR.

    I may be very wrong but perhaps using the IBM i QMGTOOLKIT

    addlible qmgtools

    go mg

    option 9 - misc menu

    option 2 - extract vlog from a file.
