    VM 7.2 and VSEn 6.3

    OSA in QDIO mode

DS8910 replicating to a remote about 200 miles away. Lately we have been having issues where replication stops (probably bad fiber channel interface in router) at the remote site.

The problem is that after about 7-10 minutes all TN3270 terminal (IP) start going inactive and the only way to get them is to recycle the tn3270 stacks. Lots of irate users. This a broad description, cannot be more specific since I do not maintain the storage unit nor the telecom environment between the 2 sites.

    Thanks,

Ok, I have to address this from the storage side. And from a DS8000 (I assume we're using Global Mirror) 200 miles is fine.

But, by its architecture, if the remote copy is suspending then it should just be continuing to write locally -- Global Mirror will just note all of the locations of changes in its Out Of Sync (OOS) bitmap until the replication can start again.

The challenge is that without the people who maintain the storage and the network, this is a difficult thing to troubleshoot. We don't know what error messages are coming up or what the DS8000 is seeing in the remote.

I would suggest opening a PMR on this as, again, if GM is suspended then it should just ride out the outage and then resync when the network was available again.

Support should be able to get a better idea of what's happening in the DS8910s that's causing the disruption.
