In what circumstances would you use a SKIPPED status? Are you skipping PMs that you could not get to, but a new one generated? Or you have low priority work and as a group have decided to skip the work on it?

Yes you are correct. We are thinking about implementing a "Skip" status for the PMs that we are unable to get to.

Would like to know if this is the correct way to do it?

How the skipped status will affect the next PM WO's ? It can be a Synonym of Complete

Will SKIPPED be a synonym of closed or cancelled? Why SKIPPED versus using a status that already exists? What would be the benefit of skipped versus cancelled / closed? If a work order is cancelled that'd be like a skipped. A closed work order with no hours could be a skipped as well.

We are using the OOB status Cancelled to indicate this. We try to enforce that if there are no charges (Labor/Material etc) then the WO should be Cancelled and not Completed.

We actually have two (2) statuses similar to "SKIPPED" to assist in the handling of PM Work Orders that can't be Completed or Closed for various reasons.

DEFERCOMP (Synonym of the COMP Status) - PM WO Deferred to Next Cycle (COMP)

DEFERRED (Synonym of the CLOSE Status) - PM WO Deferred to Next Cycle (CLOSE)

These statuses work in tandem to where a technician can "DEFERCOMP" a PM Work Order so that a Supervisor can easily query for the records so that they might be reviewed and then updated to a "DEFERRED" (Closed) status or even re-dispatched to be CLOSED once completed.  We put this in place to prevent the PM Template adjustments that occur when a PM Work Order is "Canceled".  The DEFERRED status also allows the Work Orders to be moved out of the "Open" Work Orders as would the CLOSE or CAN statuses.  Having these Synonym statuses allows management to "track" and "report on" the "Problem" PMs quickly and easily, because they function just as the other Statuses.  These two (2) Statuses are typically reserved for PM Work Orders only.  -- Hope this is helpful --

Steve - do you add hours to a DEFERCOMP? If I recall correctly, changing a PM to COMP without any hours does not change the next due date. If you add time, is this considered administrative time, non-wrench time for the technician?

No, we don't add time to any of the "DEFER" Statuses.  The "DEFERCOMP" Status is only a transitional status to either the closed status of "DEFERRED" or back to "COMP" if the work is actually done in the end.  We use the "Last Work Order's Start Date to Calculate Next Due Date" which is why we don't want the PM's Next Date to Roll Back.

In the Newer Versions of Maximo, they give the option to "Roll Back" or not (BMXAA8233I - Do you want to reinstate the preventive maintenance record while you are canceling the PM work order?), but we don't want the Maintenance Teams Selecting the incorrect Option.

    Did I answer your question?
