Subject: Inventory Usage vs Internal PO
Hi Tom,
Both methods - Inventory Usage (of type Transfer) and Internal Purchase Orders (POs) - are used to transfer items between storerooms in Maximo, including transfers between sites or across organizations (as long as they share the same ITEMSET).
Internal POs were more commonly used in earlier versions of Maximo (prior to 7.5). Inventory Usage (of type Transfer) is the simpler and preferred method for internal transfers. In contrast, Internal POs are more formal and are typically linked to financial workflows and approval processes.
Maximo also allows you to configure when a shipment record or an internal PO is required for transfers. This can be set in the Organizations application, under Inventory Options > Transfer Options.
If you need further details on this topic, you can find a good explanation on Maximo secrets - Financial Processes in Inventory (7 of 8)
Hope this answers your query.
Kindly let me know in case of any further questions.
Best regards,
Aiman

Subject: Inventory Usage vs Internal PO
In the context of transferring inventory items from one storeroom to another storeroom (within the same site), is it safe to assume that Inventory Usage (Transfer) would do the same as raising an internal PO?
