  • 1.  Intended use case for CLASSUSEWITH.OBJECTVALUE?

    MAM 7.6.1.2:

What is the intended use case for CLASSUSEWITH.OBJECTNAME?

The description of that field says:
"The Object Value for the OBJECTNAME column. The OBJECTNAME column is obtained from the MAXVALUE from synonymdomain CLASSUSEWITH. The OBJECTVALUE represents the VALUE from the same domain."

But it's not obvious to me why I would want to use synonym values for classification USEWITH.

    Thanks.

    Hi,

I am assuming this is for the case where you have a custom object that is based on lets say ITEM, ASSET, LOCATION etc..In this case you may want to utilise the classification functionality but your OBJECTNAME will be new e.g. CUSTOBJECT so this allows you to add CUSTOBJECT as the VALUE in the CLASSUSEWITH synonymdomain where the MAXVALUE is ITEM, ASSET etc

I have never used this to be honest but this would be my take on the use of the synonymdomain behind this CLASSUSEWITH.OBJECTNAME field

    Hi,

When loading Classification and Specification data through the MIF data loading framework, the values under OBJECTNAME and OBJECTVALUE is always the same. For e.g. if the Classification has to be use with Job Plans, the value under both the columns will always be JOBPLAN (the Object).

I think the synonym domain is a way to indicate which objects have an inter-compatibility with Classifications because not all objects or applications use classifications. Based on the synonym domain value, it writes in the CLASSSTRUCTURE table - would be my best guess. But someone can probably check the inherent code to see what it's doing.
