does anybody of you know (or tried) if I can install HMC software on a 'regular' PC? I need an HMC console for my old p650s but IBM doesn't sell HMC for p4 anymore and I can't find it on ebay either.
I don't need it for a day-to-day administration, just need it to create a few LPARs (though it would be nice to have it :)

So in other words, does it mean that HMC is just an xSeries box without any hardware modifications, only with the HMC software installed?
    Kind regards

The software does make assumptions about the hardware and the type and placement of adapters and there may be other checks or more in the future. If it finds something it does not like you are in to serious hacking, Linux command line work to attempt to work around the issues.

If you are trying this as some sort of "technology stunt" for fun then OK.
But I suggest that you need to get out more and enjoy life!

If you intend running your System p machines like this then you risk zero support just when you need it.

Has anyone created a successful VM with the HMC code loaded on it? I'd be interested in getting a copy if anyone can share. TIA!

If you can get the SW for HMC for power4 systems, you can install it on any common pc. I´v done that. Last version for power4 servers I think it was 3.3.5.

For p5 and p6 SW for HMc image does the type and model veryfication from pc or x-server bios during install, so that is the only trick.
