We are evaluating MDM and BPM integration and are wondering if we really need BPM for our initial phase or are there basic capabilities of simple work flow functionality with CORE MDM Solution that we can start off with.

Any insight will be appreciated on this topic.

    Hi,

My memory is a bit foggy, but just some things to keep in mind when researching this…

The main thing is that this depends on the version of MDM you are running and also the version of BPM. BPM Express does come bundled with MDM later versions to be used as the UI for MDM Data Stewardship (The older DSUI). We implemented BPM as the UI for MDM, making use of the MDM Toolkit for BPM. The toolkit required MDM 11+ and BPM 8.5+ I believe. If you have an Enterprise BPM solution already, it is recommended to utilize that as the MDM UI. If you do not have the enterprise BPM capability, I believe you will still be using the BPM Express version packaged with the newer MDM versions anyway.

Just keep these questions in mind when talking with IBM resources about this. We know BPM can be used, but it can be very specific to the version of BPM and MDM you are working with.
