  • 1.  Informix in AWS Environment

    Hi All,

    I have seen a few announcements about Informix on Cloud, for example, AWS.

    I like to understand:
    - Is AWS a different operating platform like HP-UX, AIX, Linux and Windows? or
    - AWS provides a virtual instance of one of these popular OS Platforms for IDS to operate?

    From the DB Administration perspective,
    - Does administering IDS on AWS differs from conventional platforms?

    Hi Saradhi.
    AFAIK nothing has changed since Informix On Cloud has being announced, so AMI images are with Informix ME Edition, built on Linux64 CentOS.

    From administration perspective it is basically the same, because Informix on cloud is being sold as hosted mode, not managed by cloud providers.

    [GK]: No AWS is not an Operating System. Infact it provides you all types of OS like Linux, HP, windows on a virtual box. And you don't need to purchase a physical box. Even you can scale in and scale out resources automatically.

    - AWS provides a virtual instance of one of these popular OS Platforms for IDS to operate?
    [GK]: Yes it provides virtual instance and you can either move ids tar file or you can download the same from the databases tab by searching HCL Informix. Please go through below URL for the same.

    From the DB Administration perspective,
    - Does administering IDS on AWS differs from conventional platforms?

    AWS like other public clouds is not a new OS. It provides virtual instances of popular Linux environments in your preferred compute configurations.
