    Posted 01/21/26 10:27 AM

    Good day,

Effective December 16th 2022, IBM has withdrawn support for the Optim Connect components and technology associated.

We were requested to make use of Optim Archive Viewer (still under development by Estuate) and have encountered some shortfalls compared to Open Data Manager making use of ODBC/JDBC conenction for data retrieval:
    1. Segregation process for archived data according to Application, to adhere to POPI Act
    2. Reconcile archived data in line with Business requirements
    3. Automate the conversion process to a readable format.

While busy with Estuate with the support of IBM, we've found this process too complex compared to ODM.

Question: What was the reason on withdrawing support since it is working 100%?

    Kind regards
    Engo.

    Hi Engo,

Optim Connect contained third party components that for whatever reason IBM was unable to license anymore. So they had to drop support.

Have you looked into the Optim Data Viewer, ODM, as a solution?

It is an easy to use program that accesses data directly from the Archive/Extract files. It has a graphical component as well as a command line API for automating batch processing.

See this previous community post: https://community.ibm.com/community/user/discussion/rfc-archive-data-viewing-and-odm-replacement

Feel free to email me if you want to learn more.

    Hi Tammy,

    Thanks for your prompt reply.

    Much appreciated.

Well, ODV as a replacement of ODM? I was not aware of this new product until you've shared the link with me:

This is very interesting. Is there any license implication to make use of this product ODV? I went through the video, and it is very friendly. Is there security features to only allow a group of people to view and extract their own archived data? Please advise.

For IBM recommended the use of Optim Archive Viewer and we've found it very complex since the ODM (not being supported) is still used friendly.

    Kind regards

    Engo.
