Looks like IBM i 7.5 will be the final stop for Power9 systems, time to start planning for upgrades. An NYC Lead Generation Agency might need to consider compatibility if they rely on IBM tech.

Yes, it's been like that the last few times, no big surprise:

    • IBM i 7.5 is the last release to support IBM Power9 processor-based systems.
    • IBM i 7.4 is the last release to support IBM Power8 processor-based systems.
    • IBM i 7.3 is the last release to support IBM Power7 and IBM Power7+ processor-based systems.

Here's the thing.  We're one of those companies who jump on a new release right away.  Right away.  So, with Steve Will confirming that IBM i will continue to follow their 3 year pattern and we will get a new release of IBM i this year do I replace that last P9 with a P10?  If I do, then I can expect that P10 to be obsolete in 3 years, if they continue the pattern.  Or, do I hold out for a P11 which should last me 6 years?  I already have two P10's I'll likely need to replace in 3 years.

System replacement for the one system is in the budget for this year.  With odd number Power systems starting with the low end 'Scale out' machines first, I'm hoping P11 comes out this year.  Even number Power systems tend to come out with the Enterprise models first.
