    Hello all,

IBM Db2 Genius Hub is now officially replacing Data Management Console and Db2 Intelligence Center (both deprecated after March 5, 2026) with a new way to manage your databases using agentic AI for autonomous database operations, embedding AI-driven reasoning and built-in agents directly into Db2.

    Here is some additional information:
The free trial period is 30 days for the advanced features, and if you need an extension, we can provide a 60 days extension license.
After the trial, you can still use the free version of the product.

We have a complete different way for the AI part where we are now integrating agentic AIs to monitor your databases for you. It explores all the AI capabilities included in the new Db2 V12.1.4.

    Key new features include:

    • Besides using our Watson AI technology, you now have a choice to configure Db2 Genius Hub to use your own AI stack.  You can see more details here
    • You can now use the Log Analysis feature to monitor the db2diag.log file

Db2 Genius Hub can still monitor Db2 11.5.x Community/Standard/Advanced Editions databases.

Please try our new product, and if you need any further assistance, the IBM team will be glad to help you.

    Hello all,

If you are looking for Db2 Genius Hub for Windows, I just got an update from the team:

The tentative release date for Db2 Genius Hub for Windows is 15 May, as part of Db2 Genius Hub v1.1.2.0.

    I hope that helps!

    Hi Cintia,

We're currently using VPC-based licensing with Db2 AESE and Standard editions. With these being phased out and Genius Hub now bundled with the Db2 AI editions, I'm trying to understand how existing licenses will evolve.

Is there a migration or conversion path from AESE/Standard to Db2 AI Standard or Advanced? How are entitlements handled in this transition?

Curious if anyone else is in a similar situation or has gone through this already.

    Thanks-KP

    Hello KP,

I am a technical person, and unfortunately I don't do licensing or pricing.   I am checking with someone from product management team to help answer your question.

    Hi,

we are in the same situation. We are currently using Db2 11.5.9 in Standard and Advanced and we have a upgrade protection. For me this document is a bit unclear:

    https://www.ibm.com/docs/en/db2/12.1.x?topic=editions-db2-database-product-deployment-options

Does that mean that all Db2 Editions starting with 12.1.4 are now AI Editions or are these Db2 AI editions different products? If these are now automatically AI Editions are the new Genius Hub AI features included with Db2? If yes where can I get the license key for Genius Hub? And is it also possible(and allowed) to monitor the old 11.5.9 databases with Genius Hub in the transition phase from Db2 11.5.9 to Db2 12.1.4?

    Regards

    Gerald

    Hello Gerald,

In my understanding, the Db2 AI Editions is an extra charge.   There is no conversion from existing Db2 11.5.x license.

There are several other new AI products with this package, not only Db2 Genius Hub, that's the reason why for the extra charge.

But again, you should be confirming with your IBM Sales Representative to check if there is a smooth transition for each case.

Let me see if I can find someone from product management or marketing to assist you too.

Hey Gerald! Thanks for your question.

The key thing to clarify is that Db2 engine versions and Db2 AI Edition licensing are two separate concepts.

    1. Are all Db2 editions starting with 12.1.4 automatically "AI Editions"?

    No.
Starting with Db2 12.1.4, Db2 AI Editions are a new licensing/packaging option, not a different Db2 database engine.

    • The Db2 engine remains the same whether you are licensed under Standard, Advanced, or AI Edition.
    • Existing Db2 Standard and Advanced licenses (including upgrade protection) continue to entitle you to upgrade from Db2 11.5.x to Db2 12.1.x.
    • You only become entitled to the AI-specific, autonomous capabilities if you license the Db2 AI Edition.

    2. What does the AI Edition license actually add?

The Db2 AI Edition license entitles you to use IBM Db2 Genius Hub against the Db2 engine cores you license.

Genius Hub is the component that provides:

    • Autonomous monitoring and optimization
    • AI-driven recommendations
    • Agentic and assistive capabilities (pre- and post-upgrade insights, configuration guidance, etc.)

    In other words:

    • Db2 Standard/Advanced licenses → Db2 database engine
    • Db2 AI Edition license → entitlement to Db2 database engine + Genius Hub

    3. Are Genius Hub features automatically included with Db2 12.1.4?

    No.
Upgrading to Db2 12.1.4 by itself does not automatically include Genius Hub. Access to Genius Hub requires a Db2 AI Edition license.

    4. Where do I get the license key for Genius Hub?

Once you purchase the Db2 AI Edition, access to Genius Hub. Your IBM sales or support contact will help enable access based on the cores you've licensed.

You can download the Genius Hub free trial for 30-days and give it a spin here.

    5. Can Genius Hub monitor Db2 11.5.9 during the transition period?

Yes - and this is an important benefit.

Genius Hub works with any supported Db2 version from 11.5.x through 12.1.4. This means:

    • You can license Db2 AI Edition,
    • Connect Genius Hub to your existing Db2 11.5 instances,
    • Use it during your pre-upgrade planning, and
    • Continue using it after upgrading to Db2 12.1.4.

This allows you to upgrade on your own timeline while using Genius Hub to reduce risk and accelerate the process.

    Hi Greg,

    thanks for your detailed answer.

When I don't want to use these AI features now which is the currently tool to simply monitor Db2 databases? Is it still Db2 Management Console(which seems to be deprecated) or is it the Db2 Genius Hub community edition whitout these AI features?

    Regards
    Gerald

    Hello Gerald,

The AI features are off by default in Db2 Genius Hub, and you need to configure it manually to turn them on.

The Db2 Genius Hub free version (Db2 Genius Hub community edition) still provides basic monitoring, you just won't have the advanced features (besides the AI features).   Here is a link that might help you see the list of features available for each Db2 Genius Hub license: https://www.ibm.com/docs/en/db2-genius-hub/1.1.x?topic=hub-managing-license

As DMC is currently deprecated we are not providing fixes anymore, including vulnerabilities fixes.   If customers decide to keep using DMC, the environment can be exposed to new vulnerabilities found in the old code, that's the reason why we are strongly recommending customers to move to Db2 Genius Hub.

    I hope that helps!

    Hello Cintia,

you wrote "if you need an extension, we can provide a 60 days extension license."

What do I need to do to get this extension?

    Hi Cintia,

We currently use DMC which was a free to use software.

Could we use Db2 Genius Hub for free to replace DMC ?

    Hello Kalyan

Yes, you can use the Db2 Genius Hub free version to replace DMC.

Here is how Db2 Genius Hub works:

There is only one Db2 Genius Hub code.

The first time that you install the product, it turns into the free trial for 30 days for the full product (all features).

After the 30 days trial is over, if you want to extended the trial for 60 days more, you need to contact your IBM Sales Representative and request the license extension.

After the 30 days (without the extension) or the 60 additional days trial is over, Db2 Genius Hub becomes the free version automatically.

Here is the list of features in licensed vs free version:

    https://www.ibm.com/docs/en/db2-genius-hub/1.1.x?topic=hub-managing-license

    I hope that helps!

    Kalyan,

According to the link Cintia provided earlier in the thread, there are a number of features currently free to us in DMC that will be behind a paywall in Db2 Genius Hub.  One that specifically is used almost daily in my company - tuning.
