Currently, I'm working on an ICM upgrade process which is already in End of support version 5.2.1.
and the only option available is to upgrade the system to ICM 5.3.3 which has an end support date of 9/30/2023.

My question is, what are the options available for us to manage legacy case solutions after 9/30/2023?
Do we need to rewrite those solutions in BAW or the same can be exported in a systematic manner without any development changes?

    Thanks in advance.

You can move to BAW and run same solution with Case without promoting to BAW Case. No changes are required in solution. Even you plan to promote solutions to BAW no changes are needed. I tested both ways.

But I am still having challenge to understand why we need to move to BAW when if someone is not interested leveraging additional BAW features and want to stay with native ICM? Just because there will be no native ICM updates, we have to move to BAW? meaning adding additional servers in architecture which is just overhead and no gain. Did anyone thought about this?

Thanks for your feedback @Nitin Upasani on solution compatibility, it's a great support!

Actually, I also have the same issue with the server arrangement.

Promoting your solutions does not take away any functionality (other than maybe eForms which is long out of support anyway). When you promote a solution to BAW, what you get is the updated case builder and the ability to use new features if you want them.

I agree that the architecture change is a bit challenging, I've been working through it with a few clients, and it's not been easy. I would, though, strongly encourage anyone using Case to consider converting your activities from the FileNet Workflow Engine to the BAW Workflow Engine (legacy Lombardi, etc.). That's IBM's long-term strategic path for workflow and it's got a big pile of features and functions that make it better for users and administrators (not least of which is an in-browser workflow designer with BPMN 2.0 compatibility). Eventually, obviously no timeline announced yet, IBM will likely remove the legacy FileNet Process Engine components from the platform, this choice is signaling this eventuality and encouraging everyone to start thinking through the necessary changes now.

Please reach out privately and I'd be happy to find some time to discuss.

    Best,
    Eric
