    Good day, IBM Community members!

I need you to help me with two questions:

    1. Do I understand correctly that the IBM Business Automation Workflow (BAW) product is an up-to-date and latest version of the IBM Business Process Manager (BPM) solution? Or are they two different products that should be considered separately?
    2. Where can I find current info about IBM Business Process Manager, such as pricing, use cases, features, etc.?

    Thank you in advance!

    Hi Yan,

Yes - BAW is the latest of the BPM solution release, that was originally based on the Lombardi product. The first BAW release combined Case Manager into the product and the name was changed.

This thread has some resources about the change over from BPM to BAW:  Thread on BAW change

The most up to date information on pricing, etc can be found on the product page: https://www.ibm.com/products/business-automation-workflow

If you have any other questions, let us know and thanks for posting!

    Stephanie, good day!

I also have another question: is IBM BPM no longer sold or supported? Do customers who want to automate their business processes now have to purchase IBM BAW from the beginning?
    Regards,
    Yan

IBM just renamed the product after merging the old BPM with the old case manager. There is a direct upgrade path from either starting point to BAW.

So, yes, new customers would buy BAW. While the old packaging of BPM is not sold to new customers anymore, and I think legacy BPM customers all had their licenses converted at no cost, I believe some releases of legacy BPM are still supported at some level.

    Best,
    Eric

    Hi Yan,

    Thanks Eric too!

Most of the last BPM (Business process manager) releases went to end of support around 2020.  There could be some very isolated cases in certain situations or geographies, but it is not sold for new customers.

We do see people that still have legacy products on the forums here or on other sites, and have not upgraded/converted for certain reasons, but BAW is the product that is sold now.

    Thanks!

    1. You're on the right track! IBM Business Automation Workflow (BAW) is indeed the evolved version of IBM Business Process Manager (BPM). BAW builds upon the foundation of BPM, but it also introduces new capabilities and enhancements. Think of it as a more advanced and up-to-date version that takes the best of BPM and adds extra functionalities. So, they're related, but BAW brings some new goodies to the table.

    2. To get the most current information about IBM Business Process Manager, you'll want to head over to IBM's official website. They usually have dedicated sections for products where you can find details like pricing, use cases, and features. You can also reach out to IBM's sales or customer support for personalized information tailored to your needs.
