  • 1.  Hyperswap question

    Hi,

    Let's say I have a standard cluster with 2 iogroups ( 2 x FS5200) in the same datacenter.  I want to add another FS5200 in the second datacenter and put it in a Hyperswap topology with the primary DC so I can have active/active mirroring for some volumes from the main 2 iogroups to the third one. Is it possible or do I need to have an exact matching between the number of iogroups between both datacenters ?

    In Redbook: Performance and Best Practices Guide for IBM Spectrum Virtualize 8.5 is stated:

    The IBM Spectrum Virtualize HyperSwap configuration requires that at least one control
    enclosure is implemented in each location. Therefore, a minimum of two control enclosures
    for each cluster is needed to implement HyperSwap. Configurations with three or four control
    enclosures also are supported for the HyperSwap.  

    You can only have Hyperswap volumes within 1 IO-group on both sides.. So no Hyperswap volumes for the remaining 3rd controller.
    Ask IBM for confirmation before ordering.

    One thing that you could conceivably do, if it met your needs, is set up a Global Mirror leg to the additional system (using the 3-site orchestrator). It wouldn't be continuous availability, obviously, but if you are primarily looking for a third copy of usable data in another system, that would work.
