  • 1.  Hyperswap 8.7.0.1 missing license ?

    Hello community,
we have received 2 new flashstore 5045.

Configuring hyperswap does not work via the GUI. With CLI:
    - addcontrolenclosure
    - svctask chcompatibilitymode -enable -feature multiple_io_groups
We can see the system in the GUI but the topology change leads to the error message:
CMMVC1199E The command failed as this feature has been deprecated and compatibility mode is not enabled for this feature.
    (CLI: svctask chsystem -topology hyperswap)
Do I need a compatibilitymode command for hyperswap in 8.7.0.1 ?
I suspect that a license is missing. The storage delivery  included only one A4 sheet with the encryption license.
The sales department suspects that the licenses are now included in the system and are no longer delivered in paper.
lsfeature show only the encryption license
On other customer systems with older firmware I see (easy_tier, flashcopy_upgrade, remote_mirroring)
Can you confirm this? Is it correct that don't get more paper license keys ?
Is it the cause that we can't configure hyperswap?
    Thank you !!

    Hello Thomas,

First thing to check is the actual version installed.  8.7.1 and beyond does not support Remote Copy Technologies, including Global Mirror, Metro Mirror and Hyperswap.  These have been replaced by Policy Based HA and Policy Based Asyncronous Replication (see https://www.ibm.com/support/pages/node/7166967).

The FlashSystem 5045 is all inclusive licensing for software features, so there is no requirement for a licensed Remote Copy feature.  Encryption requires activation due to international crypto laws, so it is the only thing that should require a key on this hardware.  It was the 5035 and previous editions that has feature based license feature codes.

I would recommend for a new system setup that you evaluate Policy Based HA instead of hyperswap as otherwise you will not be able to upgrade beyond 8.7.0.1

If, however, you still need to run in a hyperswap configuration you need to enable all the legacy features in compatibility mode.  To do this you need to go into the GUI, go the Settings, GUI Features and then Enable Multiple IO Groups and Remote Copy Functions in Copy Services:

Once you have enabled the required compatibility mode options you should be able to see an of the required hyperswap screens in the GUI.

Having said all of that - Really really really strongly encourage you to evaluate Policy Based HA as it has much better performance and scaling and is designed for simplicity of management.

    Best wishes,

    Hello Evelyn,
wow, thank you very much for the detailed and competent answer. Today we enabled the legacy features in the GUI and we were able to configure hyperswap without any issues.
Even the IBM support didn't know the gui buttons.
Unfortunately we have 10GbE iSCSI hosts and PBHA supports FC-SCSI only, so we have to use hyperswap.

If I understood correctly, ISCSI with PBHA will also be possible in newer versions.

    Thank you again!
    Thomas
