    Champions and Advocates

    Hi Peeps...

The IBM Champions team is grateful for all your spectacular contributions. You are a force multiplier in helping others learn more about IBM products and solutions.

But how well do you know advocacy?

Whether you're earning IBM Rising Champions badges (even a new application) or building your advocacy portfolio for a future IBM Champion nomination ;), we want to ensure you receive credit for advocacy that meets the program criteria! But it depends on YOU to give us the right details.

Do you know what we consider to be acts of advocacy? Before you answer that.... let's get you started...

    The Good

    • Did you recently present at a conference? Great!! That counts. When you report, we want to know the title, give us the link if you have it, and please tell us the name of the conference! Ideally, you would report it like this: I gave "XYZ Presentation Title" at XYZ User Group or Name of Conference. I gave the session x times. <Link to your session on the agenda>. If you want to include the abstract, that's GREAT - but not required, unless you think we can't tell what you were talking about without it. BONUS: then you write article on LinkedIn about your presentation and provide the link to that too! Oooohhhh we love that! (hint hint: creating derivative content is gold!)
    • Did you recently give feedback? Wonderful! When you report, tell us who you met with from IBM and for what tech or concept you provided feedback. Again...details matter too! Maybe you posted an idea on the IBM Ideas portal - give us the link! :) Product review? Give us the link or if it's an anonymous review, give us the title in your application or your report!

    The Bad

Here's an example that doesn't measure up to the information we need from advocates:

    • Did you say something like this? "Advocacy for Product xyz" - see how vague that is? What kind of advocacy and what action did you take?
    • Did you tell us you created a "PoC for Product xyz"? Well if it's part of your job, it's not really advocacy.  BUT.... if you shared it as part of a blog or video and then provided the link or gave the information for IBMers to use that is more aligned with advocacy.

    The Grey (not the ugly)

    • Did you post on LinkedIn about an article or a webinar under your company's account? Better: Post with YOUR name and let your company re-post it.
    • Did you repost something on LinkedIn with no comment or 'extra' value add? Reposting is great and it helps! But it's better if you can add more to the story or amplify the content with great additions!

    Your turn now!

Ok your turn... after all, this is a peer-to-peer sharing platform. Tell us your point of view about how well you know advocacy (and our program)... give us The Good, The Bad, and The Grey... let's test how well you know your stuff!

Looking forward to receiving your input!

    /Kathryn and Libby
