Some error messages may contain sensitive information, such as server names. By default, error message details in IBM Cognos software are routed to IPF log files, and the secure error message option is enabled. The information presented to users indicates only the occurrence of an error, without any details.
You can specify who can retrieve full error details that may include sensitive information by changing the Detailed Errors capability in IBM Cognos administration. Typically, this capability is assigned to directory administrators, but you can assign it to other users as well. For more information, see User capabilities.
For information about retrieving full error details, see View Full Details for Secure Error Messages.

Subject: How to turn off CAF error messages in Cognos 11 & 12
Re: How to turn off CAF error messages in Cognos 11 & 12
I support many Cognos Servers. Many times when an error is reported they give me an error message that contains the CAF message. I really want CAF turned to FALSE for these servers because the support team is doing a screen share and has no authority to look at the Cognos logs.
Googling how to turn off CAF there is reference to reduced firewall security. Is that true? All I want is to see the true error message.
Also, if our data center will not allow CAF to be turned off, which log is it that would contain the true error message? can they search the log with the SecureErrorID from the CAF message?
