We cannot locate the Framework Manager model for an old package published to cognos 11.0.6

How can we recover the model.xml from cognos analytics?

If you have access to the server, you can use cmtools to navigate to the package in the Content Manager database. This is not the prettiest interface, but it works.
    <install_dir>\bin64\utilities\cm\CMTools\cmtools.exe
If you'd like I can walk you through it.
It will retrieve the package, not the actual model, but it gives a good starting point, especially if you published most of the model.

I feel your pain. Losing a model can be traumatic. I've attached an extract (Recover a Partial Model from a Published Package) from a Framework Manager course manual I wrote. It's a step-by-step process to recover and turn a published package back in to a (partial) model. Hopefully some of the steps will be of help.
    Cheers,

I would recommend MotioPI to recover the model from a package. Works also in the free version.

Oh for sure! I'm a big fan of Motio, but in my training capacity, I'm kind of limited to out-of-the-box solutions. And for the seldom needed, one-off chores like package recovery, the built in tools work just fine. I've only had CMTools fail on me once in the couple of dozen or so package recovery jobs I've done. That was working in v10.2.2 and trying to recover a v8.3 package. My work around there was to do it in steps – v8.3 to v8.4 to... etc.

But MotioPI is a fine tool, and definitely worth the money for routine Cognos admin.

Do you have log.xml?  If you do, this article about recovering lost work after a crash http://cognospaul.com/2019/01/04/panic-framework-manager-crashed-lost-work/ could be modified to use it.

I would backup the xml files you have, and then save model in the folder.  The log.xml will have everything in it for your model.  So if you substitute log.xml in the process the session-log.xml, you should be able to recover the package.  You might have to babysit it because you might get error messages that you have to respond to.

I have used the create script and run script before for different reasons, to apply changes to a model similar to what Paul has in this article.
