  • 1.  How to: Optimizing your LinkedIn Content for Advocacy

    Posted Wed August 21, 2024 01:52 PM

Thank you to everyone that showed up this morning for the Rising Champions Quarterly Call!

I hope that you got some gems out of it, but if you could only take one thing away it would be: don't reinvent the wheel, think of elements of your life as content pillars.

For example, these pillars could be: talking about your current role/team, professional development achievements, events you've attended, passion projects, personal interests that you'd like to share, etc.

If you could talk about each of these pillars in your day-to-day, they can certainly have a place in your LinkedIn content.

Don't be afraid to lean into personal content because it gives people an opportunity to get to know you and connect with you on a deeper level (at the end of the day, we're all humans!)

How can you keep up with these content pillars? I'd recommend creating a document as your 'content database' and to write your pillars at the top. Use it as a dedicated space for all of the content you'd like to share so you can always come back to your core pillars and even build off of past content ideas.

Consistency is key! Posting on LinkedIn regularly will keep your audience engaged and it will keep getting easier and easier.

What have you noticed about your top performing posts? How do you keep up with posting content and establishing yourself as a thought leader?

Let's hear it! Also, feel free to include any questions! #IBMChampions-advocacy-learn

First of all, thanks for the great presentation this morning. I already did a few quick changes to my profile.

I noticed that good content is not enough, I also need to differentiate my content in other ways. As a hobby I'm a nature and flower photographer. As you also mentioned, pictures next to posts help a lot. Our blog engine automatically inserts a picture with product name in the blogs, and that shows up in LinkedIn, etc. social posts. However, when just for fun I include one of my flower photos, my posts get a lot more likes / shares / clicks. Flower photos in an IT feed are something unique.

So, whenever there is a topic I consider interesting / important, I also upload a flower photo to my blogpost to replace the boring product picture. A good topic and a good photo together make wonders, even if it's just a really boring technical topic, like this one: https://www.linkedin.com/posts/peterczanik_syslog-ng-prometheus-exporter-activity-7199000479714947072-owV6/

@Peter Czanik I love this idea. And you're right! Furthermore, inserting a photo that people aren't expecting also might just draw the viewers you want.  Really glad you enjoyed today's call! We had a lot of fun! :)

I'm glad that you enjoyed the session yesterday!

It's really great that you've found a way to integrate your passion with your knowledge to share with people - it's always easier to lean into who you are instead of keeping things completely separated. Social media can be a bit of an ongoing experiment that way, keep exploring and perhaps, you will build your brand around technical topics and flowers (both can be beautiful things).

The suggestions @Peter Czanik gave about  uploading "a flower photo to my blogpost to replace the boring product picture. A good topic and a good photo together make wonders, even if it's just a really boring technical topic, like this one: https://www.linkedin.com/posts/peterczanik_syslog-ng-prometheus-exporter-activity-7199000479714947072-owV6/" worked, made me wonders and put me in a good mood to read the article. Thank you very much.
