I have been using Instana, a popular monitoring tool, to monitor my application and infrastructure in a traditional cloud environment. However, I recently started exploring edge computing for certain workloads and encountered challenges integrating Instana into this new architecture.

Integration Challenges:

Limited Availability of Edge Agent: Instana's native agent is primarily designed for traditional cloud and data center environments, and it doesn't provide a dedicated agent for edge computing. This poses a challenge when trying to monitor and collect metrics from edge devices and distributed edge locations.

Network Connectivity and Latency: In edge computing, the network connectivity between edge devices and a centralized monitoring solution like Instana can be more complex and less stable compared to a traditional cloud environment. This can lead to connectivity issues and increased latency in collecting and transmitting monitoring data.

Scalability and Resource Constraints: Edge computing often involves resource-constrained devices with limited processing power and memory. Installing and running resource-intensive monitoring agents like Instana's traditional agent may not be feasible or optimized for edge devices with limited resources.
