  • 1.  How to copy text from a list/query result in a report?

    Hello there,

    I googled quite a bit but could not find the answer to my problem.

    I built a report, which displays the result of a query in a simple list. The results are texts, e.g. some name or number.
    My users want to copy these texts from the report to use in other applications, e.g. our workflow management system, in e-mails, etc.

    However, it seems not to be possible to copy or even select text from the list? I can click on control elements, e.g. filter and sort stuff. But I can't select a number?

    Am I missing permissions?
    Is it a bug (tried different browsers)?

    Maybe someone here can help me out ? :)

    Hi,

    Is not a bug. It is a feature, Cognos has a lot of interactivity on report components..

    You may run your report in other formats, like Excel or PDF and copy text.

    Or you may use browser console to inspect that report page and copy values.

    If you are not using any interactive mode features, you can switch to Classic Viewer mode for the report and it will allow you to copy text items.

    There are nice extensions available for Interactive mode at PM Square to allow copy text:-

    Sorry to say, but this is in fact not possible. Simply unbelievable not to be able to copy text without ridiculous workarounds in the "new" interactive mode.
    This is a perfect example of the way the product has been developed starting with the Analytics (Cognos 11) release. So many basic and heavily used features were missing, or are still missing, or are full of errors in the new glass UI. The list of errors is incredibly long in every release, with so many of them concerning scenarios which should have become evident in the testing phase of that release.
    It is also very frustrating to lose features and then generously being encouraged to submit enhancement requests, which then may be implemented years later.
    The search feature is also a great example of how to worsen the product: Loss of features, almost no documentation, bad usability and so on.
    Maybe there are exciting features for new customers, but as a long-time developer/admin so many things have gone bad.
