It will use bootp and the tftp.

One note of warning bootp comes in lots of favours, i.e. protocol options which can cause problems which is odd as I thought bootp was going to be very simple. This has cause my problems in the past. This caused me problems when booting Linux on POWER but you should be OK as NIMOL will return the bootp information the way the hardware is expecting.

    Hope this helps, N

I have a question, Could I use a NIIMOL on a Linux redhat, let say 6.4 in order to provide all type of NIM Resources to Pseries Systems and therefore

    Lpars or standalone systems ?

Could the NIMOL provide the lpp_source, mksysb, scripts to be set up dring a bos install, install bundles, etc.?

or would be better to use a dedicated Pseries system to perform this? I ask you this question because I would like to make use of the Proliant machine I have to make the same function as a Kickstart server but to create resources for Pseries systems.

    Thanks

Why would I use NIMOL when I have a real NIM on a micro-partition running AIX with all the function I want?  When it is not busy installing it takes practically no resources.

Sorry but having a quick look around there is very little new or current information on NIMOL nothing in the last 5 years. This Forum Entry is from 2007!  So I conclude this is not a popular way of doing things and you will be largely on your own.  It also makes it impossible to justify my time investigating further. Sorry but that is the way it goes.

    Thank, Nigel Griffiths
