Is it possible to switch HA types between Primary and RSS as we can to do with Primary and HDR

 

We have a set of three servers (without Connection Manager)

Primary / HDR / RSS (on remote site)

And we'd like to do this (for testing purpose):

Primary         ->            RSS

RSS              ->            Primary

The HDR server should maybe become an RSS server too, because in the new conf the primary will be on a remote site.

Yes, you can do this.  You need to convert the RSS to an HDR first, and then switch the Primary and HDR roles as as you have done before.

Because you already have an HDR, and you can only have one HDR, then you need to turn this into an RSS first.

The steps you would follow would be:

Add the HDR as an RSS (Primary: onmode -d add RSS <name of HDR>, HDR: onmode -d RSS <name of primary>) - You now have Primary + RSS + RSS
Turn the original RSS node to a HDR (RSS: onmode -d secondary <name of primary) - Note: I normally delete the RSS from the Primary here too - You now have Primary + HDR + RSS
Switch Primary/HDR roles as you normally do
The other RSS will recognize the new Primary and start talking to it
