  • 1.  Getting data form Azure SQL by JDBC (Active Directory integrated authentication) to Cognos Analytics

    Posted 08/18/23 10:12 AM

    Hi,

I am trying to connect Cognos Analytics with Azure SQL by JDBC (Active Directory integrated authentication). I am getting following error message.

"Failed to load both mssql-jdbc_auth-12.2.0.x64 and MSAL4J Java library for performing ActiveDirectoryIntegrated authentication. Please install one of them to proceed."

Looking forward for the solution about this issue.

    Thanks,

    Gnaneshwar

    Hi,

What files did you copy in to the Drivers folder in your Cognos Analytics install? Was it just the core mssql-jdbc-xxx.jar file, or did you also copy in the dependencies (eg MSAL4J.jar, mssql-jdbc_auth-12.2.0.x64.jar etc)?

The link below is a good resource to refer to:

    https://www.ibm.com/support/pages/how-create-data-server-connection-azure-sql-server-using-active-directory-password-authentication

    Cheers!

    Thanks for the response,

We are trying to connect Azure AD authentication from Cognos Analytics cloud version. We didn't install anything on our local system but trying to connect Azure AD from Cognos analytics cloud version.

    Steps followed:

    • Add data server connection
    • Select "Azure SQL" as connection type
    • when mentions "JDBC (SQL Authentication) from Azure" as "JDBC URL", it works
    • when mentions "JDBC (Active Directory Integrated Authentication) from Azure" as "JDBC URL" it fails

Let me know what could be causing it.

    Hi,

There are two different offering for Cognos Analytics on Cloud - the "On Demand" cloud offering, and the "Hosted" cloud offering. Which of these are you using?

If you are using the "On-Demand" offering, your choices are quite limited for which data sources you can connect to. There is a set of pre-installed JDBC drivers, but I don't see Azure SQL in the list:

    https://www.ibm.com/support/pages/node/737555#hosted

If you are using the "Hosted" offering, you can log a support call with the Cloud Ops team to get the correct JDBC driver and supporting files installed into the instance. Azure SQL does appear in the supported list of data sources.

    Cheers!

    MF.

    Thanks MF,

Our Cognos is "Hosted" cloud offering, which has ability to connect to Azure SQL. But still it's throwing while connecting through Azure Active Directory Integrated Authentication (getting successful with JDBC SQL authentication).

Can you help me how to log a support ticket with Cloud Ops team.

    Thanks,

    Gnaneshwar
