  • 1.  Flashsystem 5000 software update failed

    Hi to all, 

    we have a flashsystem v5000 with firmware 8.2.1.8 ,and want to upgrade it.

    Downloaded the some of the above softwares , 8.3.1.9 and test utitly ,

    aftert the start of the software upgrade, we select fully automated and then nearly 5 minutes later ,it gives the error 

    "failed to upload the software" 

    we have no error in the event log at the moment.

    Tried some different versions ,nothing changed.We are on the same network segment, no firewall between the systems.

    any help will be great

    Hello Bayrakli,

    what is the model and type of your V5000, in case that you have a 20272-124 then 8.2.1 is your terminal release, means no further updates.  Sometimes it happens that there is an update notification even if the system is not capable.

    If that is not the case, you can try to update the system via cli or service ui.

    CLI: Therefor you have to upload the firmeware and test-utility to the dump directory - best with scp. As Nezih described here: why is the Firmware upload performance in spectrum virtualize very Slow and Slower | Primary Storage (ibm.com)

    Service Menu: Please try first the other options.

    My advice is to check first if there are no leftovers of failed uploads.

    As superuser, first type :

    lsdumps -prefix /home/admin/upgrade

    If output is not empty, then type

    cleardumps -prefix /home/admin/upgrade

    Check again output of "lsdumps -prefix /home/admin/upgrade"


    If empty, then retry upgrade

    Hello Bayrakli,

    based on your description of the problem I doubt, you tried to use an incorrect image.
    A full filesystem indeed might be an issue, as mentioned by @Hans Populaire.

    Two options I could think of:

    • warmstart the current config node and go for another attempt to update
    • attempt the update via cli, including upload of ccu checker and upgrade image via scp.

    Hi,

    I have come across similar situations in the field. If you try sending files from cli, it should work this time.If you are using Windows, you can send it with pscp, I think the link below will work for you.

    As Hans wrote, it would be good to clear the dumps before code upgrade.

    Besides the good advices already given, I'd say it would be useful to take a look at the trace log (/dumps/<SN>-<node_number>.trc), I'd say you should see traces and clues of what is going wrong.
