With IBM finally starting to integrate AI into Asset Management in the upcoming MAS 9.1 release, I'm looking to spark a discussion around practical use cases for AI within Maximo.

At a recent event (Maintenance Next), I showcased a use case where we added an extra tab in the Work Order application. This tab allows users to ask questions to the Watson.AI chat in the context of the work order - including any attachments linked to that work order.

For example, a work planner can quickly retrieve relevant information to prepare the job more efficiently by simply asking the AI questions, instead of manually going through documents or historical data. I have had a lot of positive feedback on this one.

I'd love to hear how others are thinking about or already implementing AI in Maximo. What use cases have you seen or imagined?

One use case that I think would be particularly valuable is having AI assist with long description fields throughout Maximo. For example, the AI could help generate or suggest relevant text for descriptions based on historical data, maintenance history, or similar work orders. This could reduce time spent drafting descriptions and ensure consistency in reporting.

It would also be great if the AI could suggest relevant work instructions or checklists based on the context of the work order, further streamlining the process.

Customers are now also asking me to help improve the quality of their own Maximo data using AI. I hope more ideas will be shared, so we can start developing them further into concrete solutions.
