    Hi everbody,

for my bachelor thesis I'd like to do some extra exploratory data analysis. I have a variable I like to include in a MANOVA as a control variable. But because it's a dichotomous I can't treat it as a covariate. I don't know how to do a MANOVA with this variable in SPSS. I can't include it as a independet variable, too, because there would be zero people in one group.

    Kind regards!

Dichotomous variables are valid as controls, but I am concerned about the zero people in one group statement. Can you provide more details, including the proposed syntax?

Yes, I thought that dichotomous variables can be used as control variables but in spss theres only this small box for including covariates in a MANOVA. And covariates have to be continuous or am I wrong?

You can grab the border of a dialog box and drag to stretch it, and the controls will add scroll bars if needed.

But covariates should have a scale measurement level, but that does not mean that they are continuous. Age in years would be a perfectly valid covariate but would only have integer values.
