I know this probably sounds funny, but I ABSOLUTELY loved the new MAS9 Work Management Associate certification exam! Why? Because it finally provides a certification for regular Maximo users! In previous versions of Maximo, there was a functional analyst certification exam, but for the majority of Maximo users, this certification was unachievable. Either their organization didn't use the inventory or procurement modules in Maximo or if they did, the users were locked out of the modules through their internal organization's Maximo security. I have been to no organization where the users had access to the administrative module and applications, nor would they even be provided information from their support team on the Maximo organization level settings! So, trying to teach them this information without a frame of reference was often extremely difficult.

But now there is this new Work Management Associate certification (with rumors that additional Associate-level certifications may come out in 2026). Yay! This certification focuses on all the right things! Not only is it straightforward Work Management applications, but users need to know the IBM Best Practices to pass the test! They need to understand the out-of-the-box statuses and rules behind them. What changes can still be made to the work order in each status? Which statuses are available to move to if I am in the COMP status? 

They also need to understand the difference between the Work Order Tracking, Quick Reporting, and new role-based Work Orders applications. They need to understand the difference between a child work order, a related work order, and a follow-up work order. There are so many amazing topics in this certification. These are topics that users will be able to learn (yes, there are classes - more on those below) and actually take back to their organizations and have meaningful conversations with their organization about actually implementing these IBM Best Practices within their own organizations. For most users, they will be able to practice in their own environment before taking the test. Just being exposed to and learning these topics is bound to improve the user and their organization's us of the Work Managment applications.

Very much agree with your notes. The first exam I took was the 7.5 one but this is the first exam that I think is achievable by an experienced Maximo user that isn't a full system admin.
