​Can anyone point to me some event studio tutorial videos?  I currently use it to condition events for jobs/report runs to kick off.

However, I'd like to see other ways to use Event Studio.

Hi @Jenifer Broughton, I have not come across any tutorials on Event Studio but my team also uses it beyond the automated scheduling for 2 other purposes:

1. Events are linked to a package and since you can create custom fields/calculated fields that can be used by the e-mail, I use it frequently when I am asked to send the report in an e-mail with specific highlights or date mentioned in the subject / body of the e-mail. This is something that cannot be done when scheduling or using a job. Another thing to mention is that the reports and jobs that the Event triggers can be based off of a completely different package than the event base. This is also useful sometimes.
2. The other unique function that I use it for is to embed the report into the body of the e-mail instead of an attachment. If you set the report output to HMTL and e-mail the report without adding anything to the body of the e-mail while marking the report as an attachment, the report becomes the body of the e-mail. It serves almost as a high level dashboard on the phone, then I add a link into the report executable to the Cognos login or specific further Cognos objects so the users can get the further details from other reports.

I really hope that IBM keeps Event Studio and perhaps even enhances it as I think this unique tool gives them an advantage over other reporting tools, however as it is not being continuously developed (legacy studio) I have a feeling that not many users use it or understand its possibilities.

I love Event Studio.  I'm currently using it just as you described.
I have a grouping of reports in jobs, which kick off with a Trigger and also on Event Conditions with fields used from the package.
I am currently working on an event where if a total from prior 2 business days drops more than a select amount an email with (as you said) a high level report is in the body of the email.

I do hope they keep this software.  I did enter it to be 'voted' on as I find this software really priceless in my daily tasks.

I've been looking into other ways Event Studio is being used by others to see if there's more I can incorporate into my organization.

2. adding a  'Send an email' task to the event

1. Create a view of the report executable and set the default format of the view. Then in the event use default format.
2. In the event, run the executable or view and set the e-mailing directly in the same task, under the options, override default values.

In the e-mail task option you no longer can change the default output.

I have have created a event in , that send mail with generated report. I have selected report format as excel.
but many times it is going as HTML. To correct to i have create report running with selecting format as excel in event studio.

@Nidhi Pawaiya, I have seen inconsistencies like that in Cognos. Sometimes too difficult to figure out why they happen, so I try to look for a different way of doing the same task.  

My best idea for you is to create a report view, put that view in a job and have the event run the job. Seems unnecessary but it might have more consistent results in your case. I daisy chain many jobs into one event regularly. It can help with re-running only specific reports through their jobs, with the preset mailing lists, etc.  ​​

Are you also using Event Studio in this fashion?

I really hope that IBM keeps Event Studio and perhaps even enhances it as I think this unique tool gives them an advantage over other reporting tools, however as it is not being continuously developed (legacy studio) I have a feeling that not many users use it or understand its possibilities.

the report view  output data (ran as job) , need to be attached  send a mail task. there I am able to see only attach as a HTML. I am not getting as excel.

@Nidhi Pawaiya, I have seen inconsistencies like that in Cognos. Sometimes too difficult to figure out why they happen, so I try to look for a different way of doing the same task.  

My best idea for you is to create a report view, put that view in a job and have the event run the job. Seems unnecessary but it might have more consistent results in your case. I daisy chain many jobs into one event regularly. It can help with re-running only specific reports through their jobs, with the preset mailing lists, etc.  ​​

1. Create a view of the report executable and set the default format of the view. Then in the event use default format.
2. In the event, run the executable or view and set the e-mailing directly in the same task, under the options, override default values.

In the e-mail task option you no longer can change the default output.

2. adding a  'Send an email' task to the event

Hi @Jenifer Broughton, I have not come across any tutorials on Event Studio but my team also uses it beyond the automated scheduling for 2 other purposes:

1. Events are linked to a package and since you can create custom fields/calculated fields that can be used by the e-mail, I use it frequently when I am asked to send the report in an e-mail with specific highlights or date mentioned in the subject / body of the e-mail. This is something that cannot be done when scheduling or using a job. Another thing to mention is that the reports and jobs that the Event triggers can be based off of a completely different package than the event base. This is also useful sometimes.
2. The other unique function that I use it for is to embed the report into the body of the e-mail instead of an attachment. If you set the report output to HMTL and e-mail the report without adding anything to the body of the e-mail while marking the report as an attachment, the report becomes the body of the e-mail. This feature we use when we send highlights reports.
