    MAM 7.6.1.2:

    I noticed that the WORKORDER table has two different kinds of estimated cost fields:

    Estimated approved:
    • ESTATAPPRLABCOST
    • ESTATAPPRMATCOST
    • ESTATAPPRSERVCOST
    • ESTATAPPRTOOLCOST
    Estimated:
    • ESTLABCOST
    • ESTMATCOST
    • ESTSERVCOST
    • ESTTOOLCOST

    Questions:
    1. What is the intended use case for the estimated approved fields?
    2. Are there common cases where users would compare approved vs. unapproved?

    Estimated costs at approval (ESTATAPPRxxx) are set when the WO is approved, and you could look at is as a snapshot of the corresponding Planned Material, Labor etc. costs taken at the exact moment the status change to APPR happens.

    Depending on your Organizational settings, you might allow changes to planned material, labor etc. after approving a work order and those changes would be reflected in the estimated costs (e.g. ESTMATCOST). If those settings are enabled, this field is definitely valuable.

    For internal audit purposes, having a trail of what the costs where when user x approved the WO (even though user y made changes to the plan afterwards) is great - it shows the information and scope upon which user x acted and made the decision to approve.

    Furthermore, work orders where the difference between estimate at approval and estimated cost would also point to a step in your business process where changes have been made after approval that you might want to look at in detail. E.g. should this have been a follow-up work order and not an extension/changing the scope of the original WO? Did the planners have the wrong services or materials planned? Did we gravely underestimate the scope of work in the planning phase and had to make significant changes?

    The latter can be identified here, whereas comparing the estimated cost vs. actual cost wouldn't necessarily show that story.
    That's just a few examples off the top of my mind, but hopefully it drives home the point.

    For what it's worth, it looks like if a user were to change an APPR WO back to WAPPR, that resets the approved estimate back to 0. That probably makes sense…I just wasn't sure what would happen until I tested it.
