When the role type is email you cannot check the email checkbox. It is disabled.

Your Communication Template screen shot is not all there but I can see that the "To:" is set to "MOVEEMAIL", which is presumably a Role. Could you take a screen shot of the Roles screen showing how that Role is set up? If that Role can't be resolved, that would cause an error.
Can you also show how the "Send From", "Subject", and "Message" fields are set up on the Comm Template?
It shouldn't be necessary but at one time I believe there was an issue if the "Escalation Point Condition" was left blank so I always set it to "1 = 1" if I don't have anything else to put in there. You could try that too.

I am on a cloud system so I have limited visibility, but I was able to look at the streaming log at the times it is erroring out and I am not seeing any errors related to escalations at the time. Here is how I have it set up:
I also need to send these for the MOVE crew as well so this has a different crew on it.

If you look at the System Out logs, you should be able to see the error that is occurring.
If you provided more details on the Escalation and Communication Template you created, it would be easier to help. the problem could be in the CommTemplate.

I am trying use an escalation to send an email when an assignment is added to any workorder for crewworkgroup = 'HVAC'. The escalation errors out though. I'm not sure why. The escalation is on the assignment object with a conditional crewworkgroup = 'HVAC'. The communication template also uses the assignment.
Any thoughts on why this is erroring or what conditional clause I should be using?
