    Hi I am having this error on the plot of a survival curve even though  i have renamed the variable name to less than 8 characters. Can someone please help. I am new in using the software

    A long string variable (more than 8 characters ) can be used only as an ID variable.

    Execution of this command stops

    It's not the variable name.  It's the string length that needs to be <= 8.  If you need to use more than 8 chracteracters, use Autorecode to make a numeric equivalent.
