When I try to load data into spss, an empty window appears. How do I solve this?

You haven't said how you were loading the data, but if you are referring to the Data Editor Data View window, it is normally populated just-in-time when the data are needed. You can run any procedure to cause the case data to appear. And even before that, you should see the variable definitions in the Data Editor Variable View window.
