See below for questions and issues using RPE v6.0.6 and DOORS v9.7.
Upon first opening my DTA file and selecting each of the predefined styles in outline and my user-defined style, I have the following issues.
The outline style list:
Caption my new style
HeaderCell
internalHyperlink
LabelItalic
LabelStrong
Title
Selecting each, the console windows will not show an error.
But if properties selected for any one of them and making no change, going back to console will show the following for all of them five times and only once for my caption style. All of these except caption has “text” under formatting in the properties windows.
No label found for property: text
For Caption I had selected “paragraph” during its creation in RPE Studio which shows up under formatting for it in properties. When I select properties and then the caption style in outline, the
message above for no label appears once and the one below for paragraph appears four times after the ‘text” message in console. However, if I clear the console and reselect the caption style, then the message below only appears twice. I used paragraph because I wanted to create an equivalent “caption style” that word 2016 has and where I had set the point size to 12 point for the font and Times New Roman. The word 2016 caption was saved to my normal.dot file in word. See below for some of the settings I made although I reproduced all those from caption in
Word 2016.
No label found for property: paragraph
This new caption style in RPE
Some of the RPE Caption settings I specified.
Selected paragraph
Under font
Bold set to true
Color empty
Font set to times new roman
Size set to 12 but get 10 in the exported word 2016 file.
Spacing
After spacing set to 6 same as below.
Before spacing set to 6 but get zero for both in the exported word 2016 file
Multiple line spacing set to single
Same style paragraph spacing empty
Word space empty
Questions:
a. Why doesn’t the DOORS RPE v6.0.6 have the “caption” style in the rpe.dot file that comes with RPE. If I don’t define it, the Table/Figure titles will have word 2016 normal style applied by rpe.dot. Eventually, I have other word 2016 styles defined that use the “caption’ style to modify it with my other word 2016 styles. Thus, I can’t use the normal style RPE puts out for these Table/Figure elements.
b. What is meant by “No label found” message in the console window?
c. My RPE template specifies a container element and within that: Text, Field, Text, Table Caption elements. The same for Figure so that the following Field codes can be output in word 2016. It doesn’t matter if I use a paragraph element between the Container and the other elements for Table or Figure. All this does is put another paragraph mark into
the Word 2016 file. I do get the sequence below in Word 2016 but in normal style form.
Table { STYLEREF “Heading 1” \s } – {SEQ Table \* ARABIC \s 1 } description title
Figure { STYLEREF “Heading 1” \s } – {SEQ Figure \* ARABIC \s 1 } description title
d. When I apply my RPE caption style that I created to only the first element (Text) for the Table or Figure sequence I listed in item (c ), rpe.dot does output and apply my “caption style” to the whole field code sequence.
Why does it apply my caption style to the whole sequence for Table and Figure when I’d expect only the first text element field for “Table” or “Figure” to be marked as such and the remaining to be in normal style, hence one would need to go back and apply ones caption style to all the elements for each field sequence for Table and Figure??????
e. After RPE applies by caption style to the exported word document and I review the style that got applied, why does it set the font size to 10 point and not the 12 point that my word 2016 normal.dot file specified, and also because I also had specified it in the RPE properties for the caption style that I had defined?????
Moreover, the after/before spacing I had specified in the RPE properties for the caption style and in my word 2016 Normal.dot file was not set to 6 but was set to zero 0????
f. The ‘paragraph’ formatting used with my caption style has the following “page break after” attribute for the property “pagination” defined whereas for word 2016 the paragraph style only defines the “page break before” and has no field for “after”. Thus anything put in this RPE attribute field will not show up in word 2016 style property
definitions. Note: there is no one-for-one match between RPE paragraph properties and those defined for the paragraph style in word 2016.
g. Since RPE rpe.dot will store its macros as part of my exported file to word 2016, the console window shows an error trying to write macros to it. I even set the file extension under RPE launcher specification word configuration to “docm” since it can handle macros, whereas doc and docx can’t. Thus why am I getting this console window error, and when I review the word 2016 docm file created, it has the DOORS RPE macros
written to it??? Moreover, DOORS RPE launcher under the file explorer save-as window where one saves the word files doesn’t show me the “docm” or “dotm” file extension to select. Hopefully RPE isn’t trying to write word files in word 97 format since IBM’s webpages shows it supports office word compatibility between 2007 and 2016???
I do have DOORS requirements modules that are empty but have all the attributes and views defined to serve as templates. Thus, I would like to export to a “dotm” file extension so that it can be used later to replace rpe.dot with my i.e. company.dotm such that when requirements modules are exported, it uses my template, my custom styles, and my modified VBA macros based on RPE’s macros!!!! Currently, can’t select a file extension under save-as for docm/dotm ?????
h. I see the IBM forum makes mention of “RPE Lite” however, the online documentation doesn’t, nor does the very old PDF version. Is there any documentation on how to use it?
