I have been tasked with documenting our Cognos objects, so we can incorporate them into our database and data loading process for an end to end which we want to be then able to use agents against. We are using Visual Studio Code because we have a mix of databases and reporting tools.
These are the Cognos analysis 12.0.4 objects I am trying to document
- Packages
- Cubes
- reports
- dashboards with Visual Studio Code and AI
So far, I have been able to do the following:
- Export a packages to an xml file and then bring into my repo so I can document cognos package.
- Cubes - haven't figured this out yet. If anyone has done this successfully would appreciate help.
- Copy the report to clipboard and save as an xml file and add to my repo so I can document the cognos report.
- Dashboard options for documenting
- I thought I had found a Cognos capability (download) that would allow me to extract a json spec file for the dashboard, but my admin says this doesn't exist.
-
Beginning with Cognos 12, exporting dashboards became a governed feature, controlled by:
Administration → Security → Capabilities → Dashboards → "Download"
- I tired screenshotting of the visualization, fields and properties but this is a lot of work
Has anyone tried getting a dashboard to a json file or xml file so they can document it? If you have can you provide me with some help?
Attached is an image of what our documentation folder looks like now. Eventfully this will be incorporated into our database projects.
Thanks!
