  • 1.  Documentation for the new Db2 remote service?

    Posted 04/23/26 08:29 AM

    Hi,

is there any documentation besides https://www.ibm.com/docs/en/db2-genius-hub/1.1.x?topic=managing-monitoring-db2-remotely and the DB2_REMOTE_SERVICE_USER_GUIDE.txt in the installation package? I installed the service and started it. Then I went to the URL http://<server>:8080 and got a list of db2 endpoints, but those do not work with authentication (obviously) I tried the common /api/v1/auth/login endpoint to see if it provides a login, but it gave me the 404 error. The tool seems interesting, but I would like to see comprehensive documentation and user guide as well.

    Hello Petri,

The Db2 Genius Hub remote service, as the name says, it is a remote service, and it is only used by Db2 Genius Hub to capture information about the db2diag.log file for the Log Analysis component.

Basically it is a service listening to a port number, and when the Db2 Genius Hub server has a request to capture information for the db2diag.log, it collects the information and send it back to the Db2 Genius Hub server to be inserted into the repository database.

Once the information is in the repository database, the users from the Db2 Genius Hub can use the Log Analysis feature.

You are not supposed to be logged in using the remote service.

    I hope that helps!

    Hi Cintia,

The documentation gives a different impression:

    "Db2® remote service (db2remotesvc) is a standalone, independent, cross-platform RESTAPI service. "

"The Db2 remote service enables administrators and Db2 instance users to manage and monitor Db2 environments on Windows, AIX, and Linux systems. "

But now when you explained its purpose, I think I will give it a pass. Unfortunate, as the service how I understood it sounded interesting.

    Hello Gerald,

You can download the Db2 Genius Hub remote service from IBM Fix Central at:

    https://www.ibm.com/support/fixcentral/options?selectionBean.selectedTab=find&selection=ibm%2fOther+software%3bibm%2fInformation+Management%2fIBM+Db2+Genius+Hub

However, the feature which uses the remote service is not available for the Db2 Genius Hub Free version:

    https://www.ibm.com/docs/en/db2-genius-hub/1.1.x?topic=hub-managing-license

I hope that answers your question.

    Thanks, Cintia.
