Hi Martin,
The Usage delete utility deletes only the usage data in the database - details of when a module was used, User ID etc if being collected. If a library is physically deleted on your system, it does not get deleted from the IZSAM database during the IQ import process. It is just marked 'deleted' when FULLREMATCH=Y is used. The Physical delete utility provides the ability to delete these libraries.
The Usage delete can be scheduled monthly to keep data for a specified period of time and delete everything older than that. If you have monthly import jobs, you can schedule the Usage delete along with those. The Physical delete requires a bit of manual intervention in terms of specifying the time period for deletion.

Subject: Difference between deleting usage data with the Usage Deletion Utility and deleting obsolete data with Physical Deletion Utility
Hi There
We currently run TADz V8.2 and have been collecting usage/discovery data since installation for the last 24 months. We wish to introduce monthly housekeeping now, to maintain a rolling 24-month period of data for analysis and reporting to the business. It's not clear to me as to whether we should do this via the Usage or Physical Deletion Utilities. Please could you explain the difference and which one is likely to be more appropriate for our needs ?
TIA
Martin
