  • 1.  Determine current boot image time stamp possible?

Or is there another way to verify which image we are currently running? (FYI, we've have some inconsistencies due to SPs, Alt disk installs, and just wacky one off problems.) Therefore, we want to know before we reboot - are we running the image sitting on hd5 or an older image that's waiting for a reboot.

    Thanks in advance!

"bootlist -o -m normal" will tell you the bootlist and so you can figure out
which hdisk will get used. Unless the first hdisk got a corrupted hd5, it'll
be used. After the reboot, bootinfo -b will confirm.

And if you are trying to find out when your box was last booted, try "who -b".

Also, the timestamp on /var/adm/ras/bootlog should tell you the last time the
box was booted, unless someone touched it afterward.

Just to clarify, I'm looking to find out if my running boot image is the same as the one on disk. Example:

    1) Server running AIX 5.2, last boot on Monday, today is Wednesday, bootdisk is hd5
    2) Server is upgraded to 5.3, today is Thurday, bootdisk is still hd5, running image is still 5.2.

At this point, my running image would boot and show me a boot image timestamp of say, 2005 regardless of when the server was last booted. However, the image on disk, on hd5, would be, say, 2007, different than the running image. I could see the last time hd5 was written to, but I wouldn't know the timestamp of that image either and I'd like something more concrete than just seeing hd5 was written to since the server has been up.

Unfortunately, I can't find a place (even in the bootlog) where that "Welcome to AIX" banner is kept since that has the boot image timestamp in it.

are greeted, the kernel is getting loaded loaded and so none of the hdisks are
available at that time for logging.

Sorry I couldn't help more but maybe someone from IBM can show us more.
Who knows, maybe you can look at /dev/kmem to find a cksum and compare it with
    /dev/hd5 or something...
